Thereās something extra special about a mommy-and-son lunch dateāespecially when it ends with clean plates and happy bellies! I recently took my toddler to Mex 1 Coastal Cantina, located at 817 Saint Andrews Blvd. in West Ashley, and it was the perfect midday escape.
šāāļø Baja-Inspired Atmosphere
From the moment you walk in, Mex 1 channels the laid-back, breezy feel of the Baja Peninsula. Think surfboards, coastal colors, and a relaxed vibe that makes dining with little ones feel easy and fun. Itās the kind of place where you can kick back, enjoy good food, and not worry about being too formal.
šÆ Tacos, Quesadillas & Toddler-Approved Bites
Their menu is packed with flavorful optionsātacos, salads, quesadillas, burritos, and a tempting lineup of appetizers. They also offer a kids menu, which is always a win for families.
I ordered the Birria tacos (so good!), and got my son a quesadilla. And hereās the real victory: it was the first time he actually ate his quesadilla. Bonus points to Mex 1 for that parenting win! The staff was incredibly kind and attentive with him, which made the experience even better.

Mex 1 is definitely family-friendly, with a few things to keep in mind:
