Giordano’s: A Deep Dish Must‑Try for Families Visiting Chicago

When you’re in Chicago, there’s no shortage of places to grab an incredible Deep Dish Pizza, but Giordano’s is one of the first spots my sister ever introduced me to. So of course, now that we were back in Chi‑town, we had to take our little guy so he could experience this iconic pizza for himself.

Just like with some Portillo’s locations, make sure the Giordano’s you choose has a sit‑down restaurant—some are drive‑thru or pickup only. Since it was the day before Christmas Eve, we knew the city would be buzzing, so we went early and lucked out. The restaurant was still quiet when we arrived, which was perfect because after early flights and missed naps, we had no idea how long our toddler’s patience would last. When he’s tired… it can get interesting fast.

Starting Off With a Little Fun

We kicked things off with Mojitos—yes, I know, not exactly a winter drink, but that’s what we were feeling. LOL! And honestly, they hit the spot.

For an appetizer, we ordered the Italian Beef and Giardiniera Arancini, and WOW. These were incredible. Imagine the best parts of an Italian beef sandwich wrapped into a crispy, cheesy arancini. Truly the best of both worlds. If you go, you have to try them.

The Main Event: Deep Dish Goodness

For our pizza, we kept it classic with a Pepperoni Deep Dish. Parents, here’s your heads‑up: deep dish takes about 45 minutes to bake, so if your kids are already cranky, plan accordingly. Order extra appetizers, bring activities, or have a tablet ready. Our little guy was perfectly content watching Disney Cars on the iPad, so crisis avoided.

When the pizza arrived—OMG, that cheese pull. It’s always a show. And the flavor? Absolutely worth the wait.

Family‑Friendly and Easygoing

Giordano’s is another great family‑friendly restaurant in Chicago. They have plenty of highchairs and a changing table in the bathroom, which is always a huge relief when you’re dining out with little ones.
