🌮 First Impressions & Family Fun at El Molino – La Taqueria

If you’ve ever been to El Molino Supermarket in North Charleston, you already know the food is legit. So when I heard they opened El Molino – La Taqueria on Johns Island, I had high hopes—and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

🍹 Cozy Vibes & Flavorful Bites

La Taqueria is smaller than the supermarket setup, but it has a cozy charm and even a bar—perfect for a sit-down meal with the fam or a casual date night. Unlike the supermarket, which has a full grocery section and a no-frills dining area, La Taqueria feels more like a dedicated restaurant. Both are great, just different vibes!

I kicked things off with their Queso and Chips and a house margarita. The chips were thicker than what you’ll find at most places, and I loved that extra crunch. The margarita? Smooth, flavorful, and just the right amount of kick.

Then came the Mexican corn (off the cob, thank you!) and a taco sampler—because how else do you explore a new taqueria? My favorites were the chorizo street tacos and the birria tacos. These are my go-to’s at any Mexican spot, and El Molino nailed them.

To wrap it up, I treated myself to a slice of Tres Leches cake. Okay, it was more like a slab. I managed a few bites before boxing it up to enjoy later. So worth it.

👨‍👩‍👦 Round Two: Family Style

A few weeks later, my husband, our toddler, and I went back for another round. We ordered a variety of tacos again, and our little guy got one off the kids menu. He was thrilled to be just like mommy and daddy—though let’s just say, tacos + toddler = adorable chaos. He was all smiles, and so were we.

Parents, take note: they do have high chairs, but no changing tables in the bathrooms. So plan accordingly. If you’re visiting the North Charleston supermarket location, there is a changing table in the women’s restroom at the back of the store. Just a heads-up for those diaper emergencies!

📍 Location & Hours

El Molino – La Taqueria is located at 2901 Maybank Hwy, Johns Island. Their hours are:

  • Mon–Fri: 11am–9:30pm
  • Saturday: 10am–10pm
  • Sunday: 10am–9pm

They’ve also started serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, so stay tuned—I’ll be back with a full brunch review soon!

This spot is a win for flavorful food, casual vibes, and family-friendly dining (with a few logistical notes for parents). If you’ve been, I’d love to hear your favorites—or tag me on Instagram @fabulousfoodventures when you go!
