Heavy’s Barburger: A Must‑Try Smash Burger Spot in Downtown Charleston

I finally made it to Heavy’s Barburger in Downtown Charleston—and now I’m kicking myself for not going sooner. With one location already on Daniel Island and another opening soon on Isle of Palms, this spot is quickly becoming a Lowcountry favorite. They’re open Sunday–Saturday from 11–10pm, making it an easy choice for lunch, dinner, or a casual family outing.

Why Heavy’s Lives Up to the Hype

Heavy’s is known for their smash burgers and fried chicken sandwiches, and let me tell you—they absolutely deliver. A friend told me their burger was “life changing,” and while I’ve had some incredible burgers around Charleston, this one easily lands in my Top 3.

The downtown location is on the smaller side, but they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. It fills up fast, so getting there early is a win—especially if you’re dining with little ones. My son and I were the first ones in, and since he was nearing his breaking point, I ordered quickly.

Let’s Talk Drinks & Food

I kicked things off with their Electra 225 margarita, which comes with a side shot of Grand Marnier. As someone who grew up in the old‑school Charleston food and beverage world, I had a moment of “Do I shoot this or pour it in?” I decided to pour it in—and WOW. It took the drink to a whole new level. Highly recommend.

They don’t have a printed kids menu, but your server will walk you through the options. I ordered the original Barburger for myself and a kids cheeseburger for my 3‑year‑old. The food came out quickly (a blessing for parents everywhere), and both burgers were absolutely fabulous.

A Great Spot for Families

Parents, this is a place you can confidently bring the whole crew. They have plenty of highchairs and even a changing table in the bathroom—small details that make a big difference when you’re dining out with kids.

If you’re looking for a family‑friendly burger spot that doesn’t compromise on flavor, @heavysbarburger is a fantastic option. I’m already planning my next visit.
